How could I say such a thing?!
I don't even *know* every modern design (how could I?) ...

As for the capacitor values, there's a huge difference between bypassing 
(where you get a long with small C values), and RC-filtering (where big Cs 
are *needed* to do any filtering at all).
OpAmp circuits normally require for bypassing (though RC filtering cannot 
hurt, and may even improove), but many discrete, single-ended circuits 
*rely* on supply voltage _filtering_ - hence the big caps.
