I've got some Nixie tubes which I have found to be unsuitable for clock 
duty due to their short working life (by design - about a year of 
continuous operation.)

Been thinking of putting them in the MIDI control surface that I'm 
designing - but driven by ICs.  Just looking at that clock with all 
those transistors makes my carpal tunnels flare up ;-)
