Ive eye'd up that kit before, so could i ask you -

How hot do the tubes run?

Why im asking is due to the mounting i was intending on using:

Years ago we had a coffee table made of bits of old breakers (railway sleepers initially, i think) that had been in the sea for 
years.

Id like to get a similar piece of driftwood, and mill out the bottom for the board, but have the tubes sticking out the top. 
However, as theyd be surrounded by wood (i meen actually pointing up through holes drilled in the wood, so you see nothing but 
driftwood and nixie tubes - no surround) i was concerned about the heat issue.

What do you think?
