MOTM has got you covered, then!

I tend to agree with you in that I don't understand why a small 
amount of noise can't be used to introduce some artificial 
instability. What is it about the variation in a JH Living" VCO -- or 
a first-generation R.A.Moog VCO -- that can't be replicated with a 
little well-placed noise. But, this is an old question that I haven't 
seen an answer to.
