Ok, thank you (all).  "crimp-n-poke" helped, that's what I need.  I need to look
for the plastic header shells for those, but that should be easy.  Then I can
crimp on the IDC connectors for one end (of a piece of ribbon cable) and the
crimp-n-poke on the other end after splaying the ribbon cable into individual
wires...
