I agree. I find it difficult to gauge sizes correctly when looking at the
screen. Last time I was trying to determine knob spacing for a module I was
working on I put the knobs on a piece of graph paper and moved 'em around to
try different spacings and arrangements.

Another technique I'm using while planning a large front panel populated by
controls mounted on several PCBs is to export a bitmap image of the PCBs
from my layout software and place those images in a CorelDraw document I'm
using to design the panel layout. That way I can verify both the placement
of the knobs and that their PCBs aren't colliding.
