[sdiy] THAT ICs and SSM chips

Ian,

I've used both the SSM2164 and SSM2018, and they're easy to get
running. The 2018 is a really nice VCA, cleaner-than-clean.
"Transparent" is probably the word you'd use in marketing hype.
SSM2164 is good too, but cheaper. Mainly I've been using that for
transconductance cells in a VCF design.

I've also used the THAT 2162 (a dual 2180-style VCA). Seems like a
good chip, but the SMD package is a pain. Next time I'll either get a
professional board done for it or use something larger.

In the UK, Farnell sell SSM2018, SSM2164 and THAT 2180. RS also have
some SSMs. Prices are around £4 per chip (which makes 2164 much
cheaper per VCA).

Regards,
Tom
