Thomas organs,  for a while,  had a feature that included a flourescent light 
bulb under each of the two manuals.  It had a separate switch,  and when on 
each key displayed what note it was,  for noobs.  :-)

A starter that was going bad would not only make the light flicker but would 
also show up in the sound,  too...
