I have had surprising success using "friction enhancing" paste on damaged
screws. It appears to be a suspension of carborundum particles in oil. You
put a drop on the end of the screwdriver & then the screwdriver surface
seems to bite into the remains of the screw head.
I've used it to remove security screws, using an ordinary Philips driver.
As for excess heat from drilling.. you only need a few mm of hole, just
enough to get the removal tool to grip in. The real problem is drilling a
2mm hole into the centre of a 3mm screw!
