Hi Bob.

This is probably a dumb question given your extensive background, but 
are you sure you need to do anything on the D50 side of things? I've 
worked with a lot of late 80s/early-to-mid 90s synths (although not as 
many Roland models as other brands), and with one or two possible 
exceptions I never had to touch the synth to get it to load patches via 
SysEx. I would just send the patches from SoundDiver or the sequencing 
program itself and the synth would happily receive them.

I did briefly have a hardware bulk dump backup device where the load or 
save had to be initiated from the synth that was connected to it, but it 
doesn't sound like you're using one of those.
