[sdiy] Problem with Tyco PKES knob finish

Hi fellow synth builders,
do you have any experience of the PKES series of bakelite knobs from
Tyco/Alcoswitch? Here is my dilemma, see the GIF animation:

The sizes PKES120 and PKES70 are normal, but PKES90 and PKES60 have a
bakelite finish that is uneven and bulging on the top, around the
metal insert. You can see this in the shiny reflection as the lamp
moves over the knobs in the animation above.
The result is that they look much uglier and less serious. I've
bought these knobs from both USA (Newark) and Europe
(Musikding/Banzaieffects) and there was no difference. Isn't it
strange to have this defect on SOME of the knobs in a series? And...
what to do? :-)
