[sdiy] Dead precision electronic balance yields gems, parts to barter

Bongiorno tutti!
My mother's boyfriend is a chemistry professor emeritus at Indiana
University. He's pretty good at being my hook-up for old electronics gear to
use or use for parts (I use the Beckman 60MHz scope he got me for instance,
but took the Powerstat out of a Fisher-Johns melting point apparatus...).
The other day he gave me a precision electronic balance and I knew right
away it would yield up some nice parts and I was not disappointed: many
yellow, axial polypropylene caps (too bad only up to 160VDC), lots of 1% and
some 0.1% resistors, an LM399 (a precision voltage reference with its own
little oven). I guess the op amps disappointed a little, but they were still
pretty good: MC1458P1's, OP07's, an LF353 and an LM311. Some good 74HCXX
parts, a 74LS393 and some other TTL parts that I like. One of the coolest
parts probably was an SW201, which is a quad analog switch but with JFET's.
The 10-segment VFD alpha-numeric display with UCN4810AN controller - very
cool as well. Of course always glad to get an LM7915 and less so an LM7815
(I have a number of JRC LM7815A's - I need the negatives more...).
Oh and there was a cool little servo motor like you find in remote
controlled cars. I still haven't gone through all of the electromechanical
doo-dads, but they're pretty crusty and probably won't yield up too much...
Hmm... I suppose there aren't a lot of barter possibilities here afterall.
Maybe the PolyP caps or someone needs an OP07?
Murder She Wrote,
Anthony
