I looked at the schematic and thought it sucked. I think I can duplicate a 
Flanger Hoax without a schematic and get better results too.

Too right! But the 'lo-fi' is very tweakable from 'lo'er to 'hi'er, but 
never quite 'hi-fi' and many lateral turns as well (like modding it to have 
a true wet/dry fader...).
But the sliders and the 'li'l black box' look are what make it a gem. 
(Putting a BL3208A in is still pretty damn cool too!)
