Can you be more specific about what you'd like to accomplish? I ask 
because depending on the specifics, it may be easier if you take a 
slightly different approach. For example, if you were wanting to replace 
the hard drive in an Emax, I'd recommend taking a page from the Xbox 
hackers and rather than USB, looking into installing a SCSI <-> Compact 
Flash adapter and storing everything on a CF card.

Whether it needs to be easily portable and/or quick to reconfigure is 
also a factor. For example, if you needed to use a hard drive and could 
find one that would work in both a SCSI and a USB external enclosure, 
you could just swap it between them as needed, but that would be kind of 
a hassle to do frequently.
