Last sample.

I think this is about the best I can do with this design.

While trying to reduce the transients I noticed that my design was actually working from the bass flute range upward. Most of the problems with the transients are in the lowest octave. My original intentions were to include bass flute and I forgot that the tuning ROMs were created with that in mind.

The design was changed to play an octave higher so that the phLUTe's lowest note is middle C instead of an octave lower. The transients are much less apparent now.

Also, this piece is for strings that do things flutes don't do or do differently. For example, 2/3 of the way through, in either the cello or viola parts, there is supposed to be a rythmic bowing on one note which when played by phLUTes manifests as rythmic clicks.

I think that this piece may not the best example for a demo of this instrument, but it has other qualities that demonstrate very flute like behavior.

In an ensemble of instruments such as for jazz or blues, I think the transients would hide in the mix and be less noticable. In this Mozart piece, there's only the phLUTes so it's very stark.
