ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL. Not rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol has lanolin in
it, which is meant to soothe the skin. This creates a filmy layer that
attracts dirt when used on metal or plastic. To clean boards or bus
bars, remember to use Isopropyl alchol. I can get 99% pure at the
local Safeway (large grocery store with a decent pharmacy dept) and it
works great. You might also try a pencil eraser on rigid bars to
remove surface schmutz. There are many metal cleaners on the market
meant for use with fine metals and antiques that MIGHT do the trick
without damaging the metal and/or any coatings, but I would try them
very carefully, or wait for other advice from someone who has tried
them. Still, I've had pretty good luck with Isopropyl alcohol, some
Q-tips and some care.
