Yes, this is probably more difficult than the soldering. A
manufactured PCB might be the only way to go for such small packages.
Alternatively, a TSSOP/DIP adaptor.

Yes, maybe it would. I'll look into it.
I was only really wanting to suggest that since the 1980's the
situation has reversed: back then DACs were expensive and S&H muxes
freely available and cheap - now multiple-channel DACs are cheap, and
S&H muxes are difficult to find and expensive if you do.
