So I'm still going through stash I've accumulated over the years that
got tossed in a box after many moves. I've come across two SSM2040
chips, and though I'd love to use them, I started thinking that maybe
that would be greedy, and their life would be better served being
used by someone trying to restore an old synth. I also came across
one of those old SN74xxx TI synth chips still in Radio Shack packaging.
Are these really that hard to find? Will I burn in hell for using
them instead of reviving and old Prophet? I'm not really a "burn-in-
hell"
kind of guy, but will my karma be seriously injured? Thousands of
cycles of death and rebirth isn't really all that different than
eternal damnation if you think about it.
Kidding aside, I think maybe there is value in me using the fantastic
work of JH and RS for any new designs. I'm not looking to make
money, and would prefer a trade if anyone is interested, but someone
restoring something would get first priority. I don't want to put
them on eBay, and would guarantee them to work for someone I trust
not to fry them.
Sorry if this seems inappropriate, but every time I even consider
using them for something I cringe, thinking that somewhere out there,
there is this classic synth that might need them.
If you're interested, contact me off list, if instead you think I
should go ahead and use them for that Thomas Henry PAL circuit, post
away.
Just want to do the right thing here.
Tomy
