Either way it doesn't seem to make a whole heck of a lot of difference.  I 
used to think that there were some differences between the 1N914 and the 
1N4148,  with the 914 being able to handle a bit more in the way of forward 
current and the 4148 being a bit faster,  but what datasheets I've been able 
to find on them shows little difference at all.
