You can often find high voltage stuff at hamfests. Do you really need
the high voltage regulated? For tube circuits, although screen
voltages are frequently regulated with a gas discharge tube, the
plate voltages are not often regulated. The hardest part about
building a supply like that is finding the transformer. After that
it's an afternoon's worth of soldering and two afternoon's worth of
metalwork.
