[sdiy] More Roland mods: an 8-voice Jupiter 6?

So Rig's Juno question reminded me of a line of thought I've had
recently... I was poking about inside my Jupiter-6, and I noticed
something obvious that hadn't occurred to me before. The voice engine
is divided into a 4-voice board and a 2-voice board... which 2-voice
board is exactly the same PCB as the 4-voice board, only
half-populated!

Given that the 4-voice board (obviously) has all of the inputs
necessary to address the four voices completely, it seems to me as
though one could conceivably (given enough rare parts) populate the
rest of the 2-voice board and have the beginnings of an 8-voice JP6.
I suspect it would take a brave soul to write the necessary firmware,
but since the Europa mod proves that an updated microprocessor can be
wedded to the JP6 analogue engine, it seems to me that this 8-voice
idea might just work.

What do you SDIY'ers think? I'm sure someone else has considered this
already...
