I think you mean RAC - Real Analog Control.

My understanding is RAC is a trademark and is proprietary, but I haven't 
seen any patent claims, nor did a quick search at the USPTO turn up 
anything.  Interestingly a trademark search didn't turn up RAC, but did 
return FREQBOX, ELECTRIC BLUE, MURF, etc.
