I sent a personal message to Bill describing
the concept of message threading but received
no reply.

Regarding the use of 'reply', perhaps he is
using a vintage mail reader that has a broken
reply button.  Maybe some TV tuner cleaner
would help.  Or maybe someone has cloned a
replacement switch.  If nothing else, he
could drill a new hole and put in a cheap radio
shack push button, properly labeled with a
dyno.
