Yes, big deal indeed.

(1) Creating new mails instead of simply replying breaks threading, as 
others already pointed out. This makes archiving the list mails and 
especially grouping into threads unnecessarily hard.

(2) While full-quoting is bad (especially with top-posting added), 
null-quoting is equally bad -- the first forces the reader to 
unnecessarily shuffle back and forth within a mail, the latter even 
within a thread (given that the human reader derives the original thread 
from the changed topic/mail reference, see (1)).

There would have definitely been nicer ways to explain why this specific 
posting behavior is definitely sub-optimal. But, no matter how he 
communicated it, Samppa had a point.
