Many thanks for all who contributed input - the book is identified as:

'Electronic Music and Creative Tape Recording' by MK Berry, Babani BP51

Thankfully second-hand copies are to be had at sensible prices (a few
dollars), as opposed to another book by him, 'Electronic Synthesiser [sic]
Projects', for which the cheapest copy I saw was $82, and another is going
for $250 !! Madness!
