I don't think that the words "new" and "maintainable" belong in the same
sentence.
Unless by "maintainable" you mean "replacable at board level" which most
manufacturers do today.

It used to be that the main argument for DIY was to get something that
nobody could be bothered manufacturing; maintainability is becoming a good
argument as well!
