That's how Yamaha used to do it. It was too complicated for most
people -- you were expected to read a few sentences in the user
manual! -- so I think they did away with it.
As I understand it, "presence" on guitar amps is (or at least it was
originally) a control that reduced negative feedback, thus allowing
the inherent distortion to come through. Thus, presence adds
brightness in the form of distortion components.
