Well, we're discussing differences in frequency (or "pitch") which can 
be differentiated by the human ear. Not subatomic particles ;-)

With enough bins, FFT will do a completely satisfactory job of keeping 
track of the frequency well into the mid/upper octaves. At least to the 
satisfaction of most human ears. But if you're worried, do the analysis 
in a lower or middle octave, assuming drift will be the same in all 
octaves (linearly, rather than exponentially). (I could of course be 
very wrong about this....)

But it's nice to see that people on this list are so detail-oriented ;-)
