I've thought about now & then, making a VU meter from actual Nixie tube 
digits. Just a couple and a neon bulb on its side to make a -30dB - +6dB. It

wouldn't follow the level constantly, but sample it periodically - so it'd 
be more like a VU peak meter. The key isn't accuracy or even usefullness - 
just  a cool way to use nixies.
