Thanks to everybody for the really helpful hints!! It turns out my JX8P does have metal contacts and cleaning and rubbing them with some acetone did indeed the job. Now I have a fully functional 8P again. Sooo happy! (I just love the thing). Thanks again and happy Thanksgiving to those in the States. Dino
