You could use an op-amp and a FET to adjust the output of an LM317
(Vout < 37V) or a LM317HV (Vout < 57V).
Also you could try searching for linear regulator circuits and
feedback voltage regulator circuits.
There are some applicable examples in "The Art of Electronics" book.
