[sdiy] Roland MKS-50 vs. Yamaha SY85 & The Sounds

I am a big fan of the Swedish band, The Sounds. After listening to the
album, "Dying to Say This to You" a lot, I started wondering what cool synth
the keyboard player was using. I figured that since it was a relitively
low-key European band that maybe it would be an old analog - something that
my MKS-50 could match. So I started searching the web for photos and such
and noticed that he is using a Yamaha SY85, which at first blush seems way
out of my league as far as all around synth goes (adding my QY10 and mm10-X
evens up the score a tiny bit). Some of the sounds he uses seem really
simple, but cool though something that my old Roland could do. I think if I
had a decent realtime editor it'd be easier to get those sounds.

Is there a forum: "How to make X-synth sound like Y-synth"?

I think the SY85 is a good idea of how good a digital synth can be if it
isn't using FM.

cheers,
aa
