[sdiy] juno midi board hack

Bill,

The MIDI board only contains the opto and buffer and that kind of
stuff. The MIDI implementation is part of the processor instructions.
MIDI data is spooled out somehow, I don't have the diagram in front of
me but there might be some more latch hardware if that's not on the
board too. I assume the way the 60 and 106 read keyswitches is similar
so theoretically it's probably possible to figure how to rewrite the
code to create a MIDI juno60 but again I don't have the diagram nor will
I get it out for this because this would be an extensive project I
believe not worth pursuing.

Some MIDI retrofits require of course installing analog switches for all
the keys for MIDI in. Such instruments usually aren't fitted with MIDI
out since the primary desires is to use them in MIDI sequences; not use
them as controllers. And of course it's always possible to retrofit the
keyboard with that kind of apparatus though it's extensive work. It's
a lot easier when one can interface something on the scan lines since
there are much less of them. But I've never been that interested in
doing that on any of my stuff. Too many of the instruments...are like
the Korg sigma which I play primarily because of the control features
which would cost a fortune to implement suitably to a MIDI controller.
hehe. -Bob
