With every supply you can use Ohm's Law to work out the full load
resistance but it's useful to have, say, a half and a quarter of what the
supply can handle as well. They do sometimes break down as you increase the
load (I'm thinking linear supplies here). This is why I'm still collecting
resistors--you never know exactly what values you're going to need some
day. Things like 12V/15V at 1A, .5A, .25A would be useful loads to have
around. Or whatever resistors you can find that will be close to those
values.
I have a pair of 8ohm 100W resistors. Great for discharging/overheating
batteries.
