Hello,
Don't expect the CEM3374 to be that special and valuable. I'm a clarinet player, but I've also been involved in wind synthesizers since the mid 70's and octave dividers a further 10 years back. Of all the analog synths I've owned the Akai EWI3000m is the big disappointment. We're talking about an all-electronic, sax-like instrument, the 3000, hooked up to a duophonic synth the 3000m. The 3000m can be used with other controllers using MIDI, but the 3000 needs the 3000m. In both cases the two voices has a common controller input, thus the two voices play in a programmed parallell fashion
OK, the 3000m has two 3374 and two 3372 and neither is anything to talk about. Most other ones would do the job the 3374 does, one can find the SSM2050, and though a bit pricier its definitely worth it. The 3372 (mixer-VCF-VCA), its architecture impressive on the paper, sounds just cheesy, cold and totally non-descriptive "electronic". So much for integration. Programming voices myself or using the factory setups didn't make much difference. The only ray of light was a factory setup named Brass Ensemble. My band mates got as surprised as i did the first time I used it, not for any brass sound though. Instead it sounded like Trinidadian steel pans. Really hip, but ....
