[sdiy] IC Prototyping was: SSM2040

This is my opinion, not ment to PO anyone or start any flame wars. Take it
for what it is worth (about nothing).

IMHO I think the effort and cost of doing a SSM2040 or replicas of most of
the classic chips would be a waste. I think the effort would be better spent
going forward and not backwards.

In that light, I'd say efforts would be better spent doing some good generic
PNP and NPN exp/log pairs and the next generation of OTAs. Getting
transistor pairs with a build in temp sensor or compensation and a stable
current source would be great. Most the of the current generation of VCAs
2164 and the THAT chips aren't linear. How about some good linear OTAs
better than the CA3280.

Thanks for the soap box.
Jay S.

Besides the SSM2040 and a VCO, what other ICs would people be interested
in (re)producing?

Nick.
