well we could go on hairsplitting and taking apart each other's
semantics for a long time and get nowhere. here's what i'm saying in
a nutshell and then i'm done. all this is IMHO.
- vintage synth repairs are best facilitated by using the real parts
where possible.
- clones are clones and not the real deal, but whether they are
sonically equivalent is a fractal argument. in other words, it
belongs on AH ;-)
- not all implementations involving a part sound the same. this puts
the sonic differences, if any, between the real part and the clone
into context.
- using the real deal is OK if there is no other option.
- the availability of affordable pin-compatible clones means that the
modular crowd has no excuse to use the real deal. and the old
polysynth crowd has options too, when the real part is really no
longer there.
why don't you sum up your position like this and we'll call it even. OK?
