Fanciful stuff...

Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to just clone the functions of these chips
and have small SMT daughter boards built that could be socketed in place
of the CEM or SSM equivalent.
With pick and place machines and reflow services in abundance it would be
not hard to accomplish.

Doing the designs would take a fair bit of work but it could be
an interesting hobby business for someone.
