Roy,
"Lower-voltage" means how low? And what sort of outputs are you needing.
Not really off-topic:
I'm helping a friend who's building a synth installation that's powered by a stationary bicycle. The generator provides anywhere from 8V (extremely weak pedalling) to 33V (going nuts). Luckily, DC-DC converters with a 9-36V input range are readily available.
Also luckily, the synth hardware is all PAiA gear, all which internally sub-regulate the +/- 15V supplies. And thus, in our recent "dry run" test a few weeks back, we heard sweet tones instead of nasty switching noise. This weekend, we'll be testing out the installation "for real". Fingers crossed, and all that.
