A similar device was incorporated into the BBC Radiophonic Workshop's EMS
Synthi 100 "the Delaware" as the Option 4 control. See about half way down:

I believe this was a simpler analog version. There may have been earlier
vacuum tube versions, but this one used the new "fresh air" technology.
