I don't know how the data is stored but the working priciple is
described in the service notes. I haven't read the details but
the description is very useful.
If someone can offer about 6MB of his webspace (mine is full) I
can send him the Service Notes as PDF so that everybody who needs
them can load it from there as the original scans from Seb Francis
are not online any longer... and were about 15MB TIFFs...
