Cool. A similar variant can also be acheived fairly easilly. X-Y signals are
sampled and write to memory and it is being scanned to display your waveforms.
Simple but effective and cool.

To get something similar to phosphoros effect, each X-Y position on a pixel
increment it (unless at maximum value) and for each scan-out it is decremented
a little (with a scaled down version of itself). This is more or less what
modern DPO scopes do (Digital Phosphor Oscilloscopes - when the hell did
phosphor become digital????).

If you play a few little tricks you can modulate it so it actually becomes
green if you view it as a composite video signal. That is actually much easier
than getting full colour.

The first commercial video modular was to the best of my knowledge that from
EMS. Zorch was naturally very early out to attempt to use it.

Ah well, the joys and simplicity of good old PAL and NTSC times. We run analog
HDTV only very short distances in the lab, otherwise it is either compressed or
uncompressed digital format. The uncompressed variant is still easy enought,
if you consider 1,485 Gb/s electrical links easy by any measure, but they are
relatively speaking. :-)

Cheers,
Magnus
