JB,
The Propeller is certainly an interesting chip, and Parallax seems to be
supporting it well with plenty of inexpensive development tools.
That said, the documentation is a bit sketchy and their marketing
approach is, shall we say 'iconoclastic'. Anyone with a background in
chip development would be forgiven some skepticism (to say the least)
after reading the backgrounder on their website.
That's not to say it isn't a great device, but the world has seen many
great devices (anyone remember the Inmos Transputer?) A lot of them
still survive in niches, but architectures that are too challenging
often end up poorly supported in the long run.
I'd certainly be interested in seeing what sort of applications folks
come up with for this, and video manipulation (low resolution at least)
seems like a strong possibility. What do you think?
Eric
