Neutralize alkali leakage with vinegar. I did so on a unit I bought years
ago that when opened contained three extremely corroded AA nicads. When I
say extremely, I mean the green fuzz totally encased them, and a good inch
of circut board in all directions, including the all important custom chip.
Somewhat amazingly the unit remains workable.
