Thanks Cary, I had wondered.

In the long term, I think the electro-diy 
(http://electro.diy.free.fr/dossiers/dossiers.php?id_dossier=24) 
solution has to be the right way to go.
The Wine Country board is larger and also uses multiple 508s which 
aren't a great deal easier to find than 5530s. The electro-diy solution 
uses a current Maxim 32-channel S&H IC in SMD format, and aside from a 
few power supply issues, it seems to be an extremely good replacement.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
