[sdiy] Synth Keybards and Number of Keys

Perhaps I can summarise the responses so far:

1) Cost. 88 note wooden piano keyboards aren't cheap. Neither are two
61 note waterfall organ keyboards.

2) Technology. If you're playing a monosynth, why do you need room for
two hands? Even with a 5 or 8 note polysynth, 5 octaves is enough space
to thoroughly run out of notes. With increasing polyphony, larger
keyboards have returned (Clavia C1 combo organ, for example)

3) Demand. Who wants to lug a piano to the gig? My Fatar 88 note
weighted master keyboard requires a forklift truck to move it. Many
people appreciate a lighter instrument, even with a longer keyboard
(Clavia Electro 73).
