It's not unusual for companies to dump all records and
equipment for products that they've stopped making
money from. I work for such a company and we are
always dumping stuff that's good as new. The source
code, schematics, and theory docs are the real gems
that get tossed. I'm surprised you got anyone at HP
and TI to even talk to you about it!
