Speaking of Yahoo Groups, you might try the following:

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/atari-midi
This is a very active group and very into Atari 16-bit systems and
resources, especially MIDI related.  While not into electronic DIY, they
there may be members that can point you to resources.

http://gamesource.groups.yahoo.com/group/Atari-ST
A smaller, less active group, but more general.  Again, you may get some
pointers to resources.

I am interested in your project as I have 2 Falcons, a TT030, and 3 Mega
ST's, all being used for MIDI work (or as spare parts for when one system
finally dies).  You project sounds like it would apply to the TT030 as well
as the Falcons.
