Hi Larry,
What I know fits in a thimble with room left over for the national
semiconductor linear applications guide, but, I think that the primary
difference between the 3046 and the 3086 is that the transistors in
the differential pair are guaranteed to be more closely matched with
the 3046.
I'm sure those with more to say will chime in soon.
