 > What is the recommended way of cleaning this?

If its a small amount I tend to go at it with cotton wool buds and
iso-propyl alcohol. I then use small bits of paper towels to mop up the
now slightly more liquid tar. Its a long process.

For large contaminations I remove all the pots, Temp cos, trimmers and
switches. I then clean as much as I can with the above method, and then
immerse the whole board in hot soapy water and give it a good scrub.
After thoroughly drying, and yet more cleaning with IPA, it may be then
good enough to put back the sliders and other hardware.

Chipforbrains on Ebay sells the slider replacements which seem good
enough for the job. I can normally clean the switches to use again.

The trimmers can usually be cleaned, but if not new ones can be
purchased from the normal suppliers.

Don't forget to clean under the front panel, and also around the
cut-outs of the sliders and switches.
